La Haine (1995)
Movie
Released
Mathieu Kassovitz makes the journey between an outlying housing estate and central Paris expose how little freedom a train ticket can buy. The three friends carry their loyalties and other people's suspicion across each boundary. This is a furious, selective view of the banlieue and its relationship to the centre, with police violence making the spatial divisions more than an atmospheric backdrop.
