A day's leave brings Anders back into Oslo's interviews, cafés and familiar rooms, where ordinary sociability can feel like evidence of a life continuing without him. Joachim Trier gives overheard conversation a particular force: the city is full of possible futures that he struggles to inhabit. Addiction and suicidal despair make this a demanding choice, despite the luminous late-summer setting.
