Best Movies of 1991

A personal international ranking of films first publicly released in 1991. The selection moves between Taiwanese epic drama, American thrillers, Japanese animation, European experiments and the texture of ordinary working lives. Festival premieres count, and the order weighs craft, performances and the complete experience rather than awards alone. Start with The Silence of the Lambs for a controlled thriller, A Brighter Summer Day for an expansive social world, or The Commitments for musical energy.
