The Handmaiden (2016)
Movie
Released
For thriller viewers, this offers a con game whose emotional stakes change as a maid and an heiress become drawn to each other. Shifting viewpoints make intimate gestures worth reconsidering, and the elaborate mansion turns class and control into something you can see in every room. The women matter beyond their usefulness to the men's schemes. It is also explicitly sexual, coercive and sometimes brutally violent, so this is the darkest, least casual invitation on the list.
