The 1996 Mission: Impossible has a deliciously suspicious atmosphere. Fallout makes the case for a different pleasure: Ethan's loyalty becomes the problem that every chase, bargain and rescue has to solve. The bathroom fight and helicopter pursuit vary the scale while keeping the immediate physical task readable. As the sixth film, it rewards series familiarity; Rogue Nation is especially useful preparation because its relationships carry into this story.

When an IMF mission ends badly, the world is faced with dire consequences. As Ethan Hunt takes it upon himself to fulfill his original briefing, the CIA begin to question his loyalty and his motives. The IMF team find themselves in a race against time, hunted by assassins while trying to prevent a global catastrophe.
