Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Movie
Released
The first solo film enjoys its swashbuckler's swagger; The Last Wish makes that swagger a defence against fear. Puss having one life left gives the adventure a limit he cannot charm away. Painterly textures and abrupt changes of action rhythm make the danger feel newly alive, while his companions offer alternatives to solitary bravado. The wolf can be intense for younger children. Against the 2011 Puss film, this is a clear leap in purpose.
