The alien-computer virus asks for a large compatibility leap. The captured craft and decades of research give the idea some footing, so 'a laptop could never connect' overstates the objection; the theatrical film still rushes past how David builds a working attack. What carries it is the double act of David and Steven inside enemy territory, turning a technical fix into a tense, funny mission with two people worth cheering.
