Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010)

Ghosts are welcomed into a dying man's family gathering with almost the same patience given to dinner. Long, unhurried passages and an enveloping jungle soundtrack let the strange become companionable. Illness and parting provide an emotional thread while the film wanders between episodes, bodies and states of existence. Try following the sounds and each visitor's presence before deciding how the pieces connect. Its mysteries remain mysteries, but the warmth and dry humour offer plenty to hold on to.
