Session 9 (2001)

An asbestos-removal crew's deadline, resentment and money worries make the abandoned hospital feel unsafe before the old interview tapes begin to matter. The recordings introduce an intimate voice into enormous empty spaces, while the men's ordinary work carries them further apart. Its tension grows from listening and distrust rather than a succession of loud reveals. The dated digital look is rough, but that shabby, workaday texture helps the location feel stubbornly real.
