Death Proof (2007)
Movie
Released
Zoë Bell plays a version of herself and performs the bonnet ride, making her expression part of the stunt rather than something to cut in afterwards. Quentin Tarantino's crew used a concealed safety connection, but the moving car and Bell's work give the chase its extraordinary presence. Long stretches of conversation precede the release. This is a nasty exploitation homage whose physical pay-off relies on spending time with the people at risk.
