The Invisible Man (2020)
Movie
Released
The 1933 Invisible Man draws gleeful menace from a scientist's transformation. Leigh Whannell's 2020 reinvention moves the centre to the woman trying to escape an abusive partner, so empty space becomes something she must persuade other people to take seriously. Elisabeth Moss makes scanning a room feel like labour. The preference is that shift in whose uncertainty matters, supported by precise framing. Sudden violence and coercive control make the suspense particularly harsh.
