The Fly (1986)
Movie
Released
The 1958 film builds a cruel science-fiction mystery around a disastrous invention. Cronenberg's 1986 version makes transformation an unfolding relationship crisis: Jeff Goldblum's excitement, vanity and need for care change as his body does. Geena Davis makes remaining close feel like a difficult choice. The sustained intimacy gives the remake its edge, although its graphic bodily decay is much harder to sit with.
