The Iron Lady (2011)

Meryl Streep's Margaret Thatcher is most compelling when public command leaks into private confusion: a firm vocal attack can survive even as the situation around it becomes uncertain. The film's compressed political history offers too little room to examine the decisions behind that authority. Her work with breath, gaze and posture gives the fragmented portrait a human thread that the biographical shorthand cannot supply.
