Jason Lee's Syndrome talks like an admirer who has rehearsed his complaint for years and now expects applause for delivering it. That wounded fan's vanity makes the villain more pointed than another attempt at world domination. Mr Incredible must negotiate his own nostalgia; Syndrome turns the wish to be exceptional into a hostile demand for an audience. Voice acting and buoyant animation make his self-satisfaction the film's sharpest comic threat.
