GoldenEye (1995)

Sean Bean gives Alec Trevelyan the clipped assurance of someone who knows Bond's professional habits from the inside. Pierce Brosnan has the polish of a new 007, but Bean makes that polish feel like something an opponent can anticipate. Their physical confrontation has the charge of a shared training turned hostile. GoldenEye's other villains are flamboyant; Trevelyan earns his place through the specific discomfort of a familiar equal becoming an enemy.
