Waltz with Bashir (2008)

Ari Folman's animated documentary investigation follows unreliable memory towards the 1982 Lebanon War and the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Animation gives testimony, dreams and uncertain recollection a shared visual space; the film also uses live-action archive images. Its central perspective is that of Israeli veterans, a limitation to recognise alongside its unsettling examination of witnessing and responsibility.
