Two Women (1960)

Vittorio De Sica follows a mother trying to keep her daughter fed and safe while moving through wartime Italy. Sophia Loren makes protection an exhausting physical and emotional task. This older, fictional adaptation centres civilian exposure and sexual violence rather than a soldier's trajectory, and its suffering should not be mistaken for easy classic-film viewing.
