The Great Indian Kitchen (2022)

Malayalam, directed by Jeo Baby. Repeated cooking, cleaning and serving make the unequal rules of a marriage visible through work rather than speeches alone. Nimisha Sajayan gives the accumulation a controlled, increasingly exhausted force. A compact domestic drama whose everyday gestures are easy to follow, but its depiction of coercion and entitlement can be intensely uncomfortable.
