The Apartment (1960)
Movie
Released
Office festivities and an apartment borrowed for other people's affairs give Christmas in New York a distinctly sour edge. Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine make the wish for ordinary decency more moving than a grand seasonal transformation. The story extends towards New Year's Eve, but Christmas loneliness and corporate hypocrisy shape its crisis. A rewarding adult alternative, with sexual exploitation and a suicide attempt beneath the romantic comedy.
