Brütal Legend (2009)

The most useful second-look advice is knowing about the strategy battles before you begin. Double Fine's metal fantasy mixes driving and direct combat with commanding units and contesting resources, a structure its early presentation could obscure. That combination gives its album-cover landscapes more purpose than scenery alone. The controls and short campaign are uneven, but accepting the hybrid makes its humour and musical world much easier to appreciate.

Activision's reporting described limited market success for Raven's 2010 shooter. Its second-look case is the time-manipulation device, which gives you more to do than trade shots: ageing objects and enemies supports small puzzles and some enjoyably exaggerated combat. The Soviet-island setting supplies a strong pulp atmosphere. Borrowed ideas and an uneven campaign remain, but this is a compact alternative to another long, service-driven shooter.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (2006)

Launch criticism of technical glitches and a weak story can hide what makes Arkane's PC game fun: treating a first-person fight as a physical space. A kick, a ledge, a loose object or a patch of ice can matter as much as the weapon in your hand. Reconsider it for that mischievous combat, with manual saves useful in an old, imperfect release. This is the PC campaign rather than the altered Xbox 360 Elements version.

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition (2017)

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition
Game
7.5/10on IGDB

If the original's crude tone hid its appeal, the Full Clip Edition makes a good opportunity to judge the actual shooting. A leash, a kick and environmental hazards turn encounters into experiments in scoring unusual kills, with replay modes encouraging variety. The humour and graphic violence are still emphatic, so the rerelease does not solve an objection to those. Its argument is an inventive scoring system underneath the noise.

The Evil Within 2 (2017)

This sequel reached fewer UK physical buyers at launch than its predecessor. Its reason to earn another look is Union's explorable neighbourhoods: investigate signals, prepare supplies and choose how to approach threats before the campaign tightens again. That gives its horror a different texture from an uninterrupted corridor of shocks. The dialogue and occasional forced encounters remain awkward; play it for survival decisions and unsettling spaces.

Immortals of Aveum (2023)

Immortals of Aveum
Game
7.0/10on IGDB
Released
A difficult commercial launch and demanding performance made this magical shooter easy to dismiss. Later FSR 3 and HDR updates provide a concrete technical reason to reassess the package, while swapping spell colours and combining abilities gives the campaign more identity than its generic fantasy war suggests. Hardware demands and crowded controls still matter, and frame generation is not a guarantee of responsiveness. It is an imperfect option for someone wanting a self-contained action campaign.
