Cult Games That Deserve Their Devoted Following

A devoted following catches my attention when it can point to something worth doing: noticing a route nobody mentioned, making a consequential choice or spending time with a place whose peculiarities begin to make sense. These games offer that kind of particular appeal. Their afterlives also tell useful stories. Fans helped fund Psychonauts' sequel, kept Bloodlines patched and made new worlds around Thief and Gothic. OFF travelled through translations before its 2025 remake. Other choices grew a shared language around daily challenges, strange mysteries or characters people wanted to meet again.
