Roy Batty wants more life from a company that manufactures people for disposable labour. The four-year limit gives his demand an urgency that the human authorities prefer to treat as a technical problem. Murdering Tyrell and terrorising Deckard do not follow morally from that claim. His final act of mercy matters because it shows another response remains possible, making him more interesting than a speech about the cruelty of his creators.
