Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Movie

Ofelia's encounters with fantastical creatures run beside the demands of a violent fascist household. The contrast makes obedience a live question in both worlds: recognising authority is not the same as trusting it. Del Toro's designs are extraordinary, but their force comes from the choices the child has to make around them. Choose this dark adult fairy tale for imagination under pressure, with brutal historical violence and some exceptionally disturbing creatures.
