The Iron Giant (1999)
Movie
Released
A huge machine's friendship with a boy becomes a question about whether a frightening body has to determine a frightening purpose. Brad Bird makes the robot's curiosity expressive enough to carry that argument without constant explanation. Cold War suspicion supplies the pressure, while individual choices decide what the machine becomes. A more accessible animated route into the theme, with military peril and emotional weight inside the adventure.
