Charlie's damaged Volkswagen is also a bewildered robot trying to understand a teenager's room, music and moods. The smaller gestures let his personality arrive before the larger Transformers conflict takes over. Hailee Steinfeld gives the friendship someone worth responding to, so repairing the machine becomes an exchange rather than a project. Choose this comparatively intimate robot adventure for vulnerability and comic physicality, with the later military action a substantial change of scale.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town.
