Nimona (2023)

The shapeshifter's outrageous entrances are funny, but the moments when she expects rejection make the mischief matter. She needs the disgraced knight Ballister to see a person rather than a category his training has taught him to fear. The film earns our allegiance by letting her be inconvenient, wounded and exuberant at once. Pick it for an outsider whose appeal would shrink if she had to become less strange, with painful rejection and despair beneath the speed and jokes.
