Robbie's return gives Ray a complete family reunion after the film last showed his son running towards battle, followed by devastating explosions. We never saw a confirmed death, so survival is possible. What is missing is the dramatic bridge between those images and his safe arrival in Boston. The reassurance arrives precisely where the film's frightening account of limited parental control has made an unexplained rescue hardest to accept.
